"THISDAY OFF NEWSSTAND AS STAFF EMBARK ON ANOTHER STRIKE"

Staff of Thisday newspapers, will today begin another round of strike over unpaid salaries.

According to sources, the staff, who declared a face-off with the management on Wednesday, shut down operations at exactly 6pm.

Owing to the face-off, This Day Newspaper, published by Nduka Obaigbena, will be off the news stand today.

This will be the first time since 1996 when the newspaper hit the newsstand, that it will not be on the streets. The staff had last Wednesday, embarked on a warning strike to protest their unpaid salaries for May, June and July 2013.

Owing to this, Obaigbena was said to have paid a month’s salary to the junior staff, promising to pay the others last week Friday but failed. This was despite the promise of a ten million naira bonus for the Sallah and payment of salary on Monday.*
