A 64-year-old man was apprehended today in Ebonyi for having allegedly defiled a six-year-old girl at Agbaenyim in Izzi Local government area of the state.
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps's (NSCDC) spokesperson in the state, Emmanuel Nwali, said Mr. Peter Edibgo would have fallen a victim of a jungle justice, but the timely intervention of the officers and men of Command prevented that.
Mr. Nwali further explained that, after the investigation is over, the suspect would be transferred to the appropriate agency responsible for handling such heinous crimes for prosecution.
Mr. Edigbo, the suspect, is notorious for similar acts, and the village Head and other members of the community onfirmed the incident to the Corps.
According to the command's spokesman, the victim, Nkwegu Chinwe, "felt a hard push into her legs" and raised an alarm which attracted members of the community.
"We are still investigating the case and after that we are going to hand over the case to the appropriate quarters because that is not one of our core mandates as NSCDC," Mr. Nwali stated.
