A teacer has been arrested for allegedly raping and molesting 14 minor girls, aged between 4 and 13 over the last three years, at a residential school in Arunachal Pradesh's West Siang district in India.
The violations came to light after some students filed a police complaint on Tuesday.
According to police, Vipin Wisvan, the accused from Kerala, has been arrested. The school principal and two other staff were also detained for interrogation.
The accused allegedly lured the girls to his room, where he violated them. Later, he would threaten them with dire consequences if they complained to their parents or school authorities.
The students had reportedly complained to the principal. But he allegedly tried to suppress the matter.
Police said a few students managed to jump over the school's boundary wall and reported the incident to police.
The local residents took to the streets and demanded capital punishment for the accused and those who suppressed the violations.
Separately, a mob damaged the school's two vehicles on Wednesday to protest the rapes.
They demanded that police hand over the accused to them.
