Following the publication of a story in one of the national dailies (not Weekly Trust) which mentioned the name of Professor Attahiru Jega, his legal counsel has asked the newspaper to retract the said story.
This was contained in a letter addressed to the publisher of the paper by Dikko & Mahmoud Solicitors & Advocates and signed by A. B Mahmoud, on behalf of Professor Jega, who is also the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The letter, dated 29th August, and which was e-mailed to Weekly Trust by the Commission yesterday, described the story attributed to the INEC chairman as “totally false and baseless.”
“We are by this letter demanding that you publish an unequivocal retraction and apology in wordings acceptable to us, within 7 days of receipt of this letter,” the letter added.
