The police spokesperson sighted two incidences.
The Nigeria Police Force on Tuesday released a child abduction alert warning citizens of incidences of child abduction.
The police spokesperson, Frank Mba, in a statement mentioned two different instances of child abduction that the police is investigating.
“On August 25 at about 8:00PM a Mother (name withheld), resident of MASAKA TOWN, NASARAWA STATE reported to the Police that at about 8:00AM of same day she handed her one-month old baby boy (name withheld) to an unknown woman to help in briefly attending to the baby while a service was on going at Living Faith Church, Goshen City, NASARAWA STATE,” the spokesman said.
He said the unknown woman disappeared with the baby and all efforts to trace the woman have so far proved abortive. He said the police are intensifying efforts to apprehend the suspect and recover the child; while the State CID, Lafia is investigating the matter.
Also, on August 19, an irate mob brought a badly beaten female suspect named Chinenye Godwin to the police station and reported that the suspect was accosted at about 10:00 a.m. of August 9 inside the bush trying to escape with a two-month old baby boy.
She was alleged to have stolen the baby from the parent’s house in Umuozuo Village, Abia State while the baby’s mother was busy in the kitchen.
The earlier stolen and now recovered baby has safely been reunited with its mother by the Police. The suspect, who is now in the police custody, is undergoing investigation at the State CID Umuahia.
