Officials of the Kano state Consumer Protection Council (CPC) yesterday impounded and trucks conveying the contaminated palm oil which was scooped from drainages after the tanker conveying it crashed at the Club Road Roundabout in Kano.
Daily Trust also gathered that the suspected owner of the oil, Alhaji Ibrahim Tagwaye was invited by the CPC officials for questioning. The ill-fated tanker had an accident Wednesday evening at Club Road, not far from its final destination. An earlier effort by the council’s personnel to obtain police cover to make the arrest failed, Daily Trust reports.
Addressing newsmen in Kano, the council chaiman, Alhaji Nuhu Bello said “our officials have successfully arrested the truck and we invited the owner for interrogation.”
He said. “the spilled oil would later been put through laboratory test “to ascertain the level of contamination and possible infection.”
Bello added that the trader could later face charges in court, if found wanting. He also warned the public to be watchful of the oil they buy from the market as some residents that participated in the scooping might attempt to sell it in the local market.
