Youth unemployment breads insecurity -NNPC GMD

The Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, Mr. Andrew Yakubu, has said the prevailing security challenges in the country arise as result of unemployment among the youths.
He said in order to keep the youth off the streets and engage them in meaningful ventures, the corporation, through the Kaduna Refining Company had  over the years embarked on the training of youths  under its Youth Empowerment and Skill Acquisition Programme.
The GMD at the 5th edition of the KRPC’s Youth Empowerment and Skill Acquisition Program in Kaduna on Thursday,  said government alone could not provide employment for the teeming youths across the country, hence the current move by the corporation towards job creation and self-reliance.
This,  he said, was the only way forward in the battle against unemployment in the country.
The GMD,  who was represented at the event by the Corporation’s General Manager(Audit), Issa Inuwa, said, “The entrepreneurial skills programme presents an opportunity for independence and self-reliance given the limitations of government in  providing   employment to all the teaming products of our various educational institutions.
“This innovation by KRPC is the only way forward in the battle against unemployment in our society.
“This is more poignant considering that the security challenges, sectarian strife, perpetrated in the name of  politics, religion and ethnicity, that currently bedevil this nation can be directly linked to the high rate of unemployment among the youths.
The KRPC’s  Acting Managing Director, Dr. Bafred  Enjugu, had  said the occasion called for celebration as 120 youths would join the ranks of 405 self-employed youths  that had graduated from the programme since 2008.
