Suntai’s video was doctored, says Ex-commissioner

The office of the Secretary to the Taraba State government has cleared the air over a video that went viral, which quoted ailing Governor Danbaba Suntai as saying that he was not fit to return to office.

A statement signed by a former Commissioner for Information, Mr. Emmanuel Bello, which was made available to our correspondent via text on Wednesday, described the video as not only fake, but deliberately circulated to deceive the people of the state.

While describing the video as scandalous and libelous, the statement expressed regret that those who used the report, never contacted the office of the ailing governor to ascertain the authenticity of the video.

The statement reads in part: ”Apart from the comical nature of the news item, the un-professionalism of the media was profoundly saddening. A salacious concotion started by Sahara Reporters was lifted by reputable national media and presented as news.

“It should interest the world to note that most of the papers who reported that Governor Danbaba Suntai has admitted that he can not resume work, did not get their story from their correspondents in Jalingo.

“Secondly, their source was a video shown by a pressure group in Lagos to a collection of ”top editors”. Again, this is dubious. We wonder if the Lagos-based editors noticed the superimposition of voices on a funny caricature of a video clobbered together by desperate politicians.”
