Soldiers beat up doctors, nurses in Ondo hospital

About 20 soldiers  stormed the General Hospital, Ore, Odigbo Local Government Area, Ondo State, beating up doctors, nurses and other employees.

It was gathered that the soldiers, whose identities had yet to be known, were aggrieved because the hospital refused to accommodate the corpse of one of their colleagues in the hospital’s morgue on Tuesday.

During the attack, some of the workers sustained injuries.

Those who could not quickly escape were said to have received severe beatings.

A source within the hospital said the soldiers brought the corpse on Tuesday evening with the intention of depositing it in the morgue of the hospital, but the hospital management said there was no space for additional bodies.

One of the workers said, “The efforts of the soldiers to deposit the corpse were unsuccessful. On Wednesday, they came back and started beating everybody.”

When contacted, spokesman for the command, Mr. Wole Ogodo, said he was unaware of the incident.

Efforts reach the spokesman for 323 Artillery Brigade, Owena Barracks,  Captain Ademola Adegoke, was  unsuccessful as his phone rang out.
