Oyo Accord Party adopts Ladoja for 2015 guber race

Ladoja is a former governor of the state
Leaders of the Accord Party from Oyo South senatorial district have adopted Rashidi Ladoja as the party’s candidate for the forthcoming governorship election.
Mr. Ladoja was elected as the state governor on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in 2003, but was controversially impeached by a section of the state House of Assembly. He was, however, reinstated by the Supreme Court after being kept out of office for 11 months.
The former governor later dumped PDP for Accord Party where he contested for Oyo governorship seat but lost to incumbent Abiola Ajimobi in 2011.
Rising from a meeting of leaders of Accord Party in Oyo South on Friday, party leaders said they believed the former governor was the only candidate that has what it takes to take the state to an enviable level.
The zone is one of the three senatorial districts in Oyo and has nine local government areas under it. The local governments are Ibadan North, Ibadan North- East, Ibadan North -West, Ibadan South -East, Ibadan South -West, Ibarapa Central, Ibarapa North, Ibarapa East and Ido.
Mr. Ladoja, a national leader of the party, is from Ibadan North Local Government Area.
Among the leaders who attended the meeting where Mr. Ladoja was adopted are Messrs Tunji Adeoye, Dele Adigun, Nureni Adeniran, Tayo Sarumi, Remi Ayodele and Bimbo Adepoju.
Others included the party chairmen and secretaries in the nine councils under the senatorial district.
According to a communique issued after the meeting and jointly signed by the state’s deputy chairman, Adeyinka Adeniyi, and secretary, Nureni Adeniran, the adoption did not foreclose the chance of other members to aspire for the party’s governorship ticket in 2015.
The communiqué also called on members of the party to shun violence.
“Accord will not condone any acts of indiscipline,” it said.
Accord Party mainly has its strength in Oyo State where it has state and federal lawmakers.
