The Code of Conduct Tribunal on Wednesday issued a bench warrant for the arrest of six serving Sole Administrators of local governments in Adamawa State for failing to appear before it to face charges of non-declaration of assets .
The warrants were issued against Aliyu Ahmed Gaya, Gaya/Garaha Development Area; Ahmed Yero, Nasarawa-Jereng Development Area; Sule Duhu, Shuwa Development Area; Irimiya Levi, Borrong Development Area; Denis Kakaba, Bidoma Development Area; and Ishiyaku Kawunyara, Yola West Development Area.
The council bosses were summoned to appear before the tribunal on Wednesday but failed to turn up.
The spokesman for the CCT, Ibrahim Al-Hassan, said in a statement that the warrant was issued in Abuja by the tribunal’s three-man panel led by its Chairman, Justice Danladi Umar.
In a ruling, Justice Umar held that the matter was slated for arraignment on Tuesday, but had to be adjourned to Wednesday, November 20, 2013, “in view of the absence of the accused, based on the submission by counsel for the accused that their vehicle developed mechanical problem.”
He added, “Yet, they could not appear in the court today (Wednesday), and the Tribunal views this as lack of respect to the tribunal.
“The tribunal views this as lack of seriousness on the part of the accused and disobedience to the summons issued. Therefore, the tribunal hereby issues a bench warrant of arrest against the accused persons to be produced on December 4, 2013, for arraignment.”
