Prospects of a political convergence between former President Olusegun Obasanjo and former Lagos State governor, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu were put on hold, yesterday, after the public launch of a book on the former president was put on hold.
Tinubu, one of the most famous critics of former President Obasanjo and who had been on opposite political side with the former president had ironically been slated to be a launcher of the book, ‘Obasanjo: President of Presidents.’ The book written by Paul Adebayo Oni was to be launched in Obasanjo’s Presidential Library, yesterday.
The launching of the book was deferred upon the failure of President Obasanjo to return from an international trip.
Oni, the author of the book told Vanguard on phone, yesterday, that, Chief Obasanjo could not make it to Nigeria from overseas.
When asked when the programme would hold again, he said: “Not until Baba comes back and we sit down and choose another date, I may not be able to say much on it.”
The launch of the book had been heralded with much publicity especially in Abeokuta with announcements on radio.
Tinubu and Obasanjo have not been seen together in public since they left office in 2007 and even before then, both men rarely graced the same public functions having fallen out on issues including the creation of additional local governments in Lagos State.
President Obasanjo caused the seizure of local government funds earmarked for Lagos State following the creation of the additional local governments by Lagos State.
Besides Tinubu, others expected to have co-launched the book were Governors Sule Lamido and Godswill Akpabio of Jigawa and Akwa Ibom states respectively.
President Goodluck Jonathan was also invited as grand guest of honour while former military heads of state, Generals Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida, Muhammad Buhari and AbdulSalami Abubakar; former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar; Senate President, David Mark and Speaker of House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal were special guests of honour.
Governor Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun State was to act as chief host.
