Drama in Obio Akpor as chairman refuses to handover to head LGA

There was drama at the Obio Akpor local government council yesterday as Mr Timothy Nsirim refused to vac ate his office as Chairman of the council in compliance with the dissolution of the local government council on Thursday night by governor Chibuike Amaechi.
Also the seventeen Councillors of the local government told newsmen that they would not comply with the dissolution.
It would be recalled that Mr Nsirim who was suspended alongside seventeen Councillors of the local government by the state House of Assembly six months ago, recently secured a Port Harcourt High court judgement quashing the suspension
Barely five days after the court victory governor Amaechi dissolved the council and directed that the chairman should immediately hand over to the Head of Local government Administration.
Meantime, Mr Nsirim yesterday told newsmen that he resumed at the office as early as 7am to continue the business of the day as Chairman of the council.
The Head of the Local Government Administration, Mr Singer Azubuike Singer at an interactive session with newsmen yesterday morning in Government House, Port Harcourt insisted that he was now in charge of the council, adding that the dissolution by the state governor was in order.
“The recent announcement of the governor dissolving the council and handing over to the Head of Local Government Administration is in accordance with the law.   Nobody should pay revenue to individuals. There are designated banks to pay revenues to”, he said.
When asked if Mr Nsirim had handed over to him the Head of the Local Government Administration, Mr Singer said he was yet to see him.
