Gendarmes placed Dokubo’s aides under house arrest -Coordinator

The Niger Delta Volunteer Peoples Force has said the Beninoise gendarmes placed many aides of its leader, Alhaji Mujahid Dokubo-Asari, under house arrest for many hours when they came to arrest him.

The group said the aides were restricted to their apartment for about 12 hours before they were allowed to exercise their freedom of movement, adding that Dokubo-Asari was detained at an unknown location.

The South-East/North-Central Coordinator of the organisation, Emmanuel Amakiri, told newsmen in Abuja on Friday that the Beninoise authorities had yet to explain why the ex-militant leader was detained.

Amakiri stated that it took the intervention of the Nigerian Ambassador to Benin Republic to ensure the release of the NDVPF leader who he said was surprised by his detention because he did not commit any crime.

He also denied reports that Dokubo-Asari was brought to Nigeria by a presidential jet, noting that the ex-militant leader was still in Benin Republic where he was making plans to come into the country through a commercial flight.

Amakiri accused some unnamed political enemies of the Niger Delta repentant warlord of being responsible for his arrest and detention by the Beninoise authorities.

He said NDVPF leader might take legal action against the gendarmes for detaining him without any legal reason.

He said, “As I speak with you, the gendarmes have yet to explain the reason for detaining Mujahideen Dokubo and he is still in Benin Republic making arrangements to come back to the country through his favourite commercial airline.
