Security forces pound Boko Haram strongholds in Borno, Yobe

Security forces have carried out several land and aerial bombardments of Boko Haram strongholds in Borno and Yobe States.
The Director Army Public Relations, Brig. General Ibrahim Attahiru, said during the monthly press briefing of the Nigerian Army in Abuja on Friday that several insurgents were dislodged in their camps at Sambisa Forest and Bita Village of Damboa Local Government Area of Borno State and Guijba in Yobe State.
Attahiru said that the combined land and aerial attacks which he described as largely successful resulted in the death of several insurgents and the recovery of large cache of arms and ammunition recovered from them.
He said that security forces were intensifying an operation that was designed to prevent the insurgents from ‘freedom of action’ in the area.
Attahiru added that security forces had also responded through effective aerial and land patrol and bombardments to the tricks of the insurgents to attack soft targets and the mounting of road blocks along major roads in the north east.
He said, “The Nigerian Army on its part continues to carry out full spectrum counterinsurgency operations with emphasis on both kinetic and non kinetic operations to shape the operational environment of the North East.”
