Ocean surge to last for few days - NEMA

The South West Zonal office of the National Emergency Management Agency NEMA in Lagos has warned fun seekers to be on the alert in coastal areas as there are signs of possible ocean surge that will last for some few days.
“NEMA received an early warning alert on oceanic surge/turbulence from environmentalists and NEMA’s executive volunteers, which is expected to last for some few days,” NEMA’s South- West Information Officer, Ibrahim Farinloye stated.
He added that after ‘due consultations’ it is imperative to heed the warning due to some threats experienced by some “fun seekers” yesterday in one of the beaches.
The spokesman said that NEMA advises against swimming deep into the ocean and urged beach managers to keep “an eagle eye surveillance and be safety conscious.
“The beach operators must station rescuers and ensure First Aids providers are on the standby in case of any emergency,” The statement added.
