A man was arrested on Tuesday in Kafanchan central mosque with a bag containing 24 bullet casings and powders.
Chairman of the mosque committee, Auwalu Yahaya, said the man who claimed to be an indigene of Delta State refused to reveal his name and was carrying suspicious items in his bag when he came to the mosque.
“He was dressed in ragged clothing with a bag containing suspicious items. He was asked to leave the mosque since he could not clarify his motive but he later returned. The people around saw him again and told him to leave but when he returned the third time around 10pm some youths wanted to beat him and I intervened”, he said.
Yahaya said the man was later taken to the police after the bag was emptied.
“There were 24 bullet casings in the bag, three of which were filled with black powder. There was also a polythene bag containing powder. The man refused to mention his name and pretended to be silly”, he added.
The police public relations officer in Kaduna, DSP Aminu Lawan, said the man had tattered clothes in his bag, about three bullet shells, expired food and dried human dung. He said the man is not responding to police questions because he seems to be out of his senses.
“We shall consult psychiatric doctors to analyze his condition before we take further action. But the man is with us. He only said he is from Delta,” he said.
