AMAECHI ALERTS ON ARMS BUILD-UP FOR 2015

Rivers State Governor Chibuike Amaechi yesterday alerted the nation on what he described as a serious arms build up across the country ahead of the 2015 elections.
Governor Amaechi who spoke at a New Year church service at the Abundant life Evangelical  Mission in Port Harcourt said politicians are stockpiling arms ahead of the elections and urged the church to pray for God’s intervention.
The governor also berated the wife of the president, Dame Patience Jonathan, for allegedly masterminding the removal of the former commissioner of police in the state, Muhammed Ndabawa, and his replacement with Joseph Mbu Joseph whom he accused of being partisan.
“There is heavy presence of weapons in the country never seen by any government. The church has the responsibility to pray for the country. The church should pray hard now. We want you to pray for our leaders so that they should think of our followers. Pray for us to have wisdom of God to serve you. Apostle Eugene Ogu, the overseer of Abundant Life Mission called me recently to inform me that a member of his church was kidnapped. Until last April when the wife of the president removed the commissioner of police in the state we had a very strong security network that checked the activities of kidnappers and other criminal elements. But since the police commissioner was removed kidnapping and other criminal activities have been on the increase”.
“They have removed all the heads of security in the state and replaced them with their own men. If the wife of the president did not remove the former commissioner of police we would not be having the present security challenges. Before the former police boss was removed crime rate had reduced drastically. Last year we held security meeting two times unlike before when it was held weekly”, he said. He called on people of the state to resist impunity and protest to attract attention of the powerful. The governor also flayed what he called the total neglect and abandonment of the state by the federal government.
He said the state government spent huge amounts to execute approved federal projects such as the Port Harcourt/Owerri road without any refund.
“There is hardly any reasonable federal project going on in the state. Work on the Port Harcourt international airport, a major gateway into the eastern part of the country has been largely abandoned while airports whose rehabilitation were embarked upon at the same time have since been commissioned”, he said.
