The Ogun State Government has earmarked N1.1bn as compensation for people whose properties were affected in the ongoing road construction in the state.
The Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Mr. Olalekan Adegbite, said this on Thursday in Abeokuta while defending the 2014 budget proposal of the ministry at the House of Assembly.
Adegbite said the amount was included in the 2014 budget.
He explained that the ministry would remit the money to the Bureau of Land and Survey for payment to the people that were affected.
According to the commissioner, the main objective of the government in 2014 is to complete the seven ongoing road projects in the state.
He said the government would also construct additional 350 kilometres of asphalt roads in major towns in the three senatorial districts of the state.
Adegbite added that N496.4m would be used to complete Oba Erinwole junction road, off Sagamu-Benin Expressway, Ijebu Ode.
He said the government would commence the process of establishing an asphalt plant and soil testing laboratory in the state at the cost of N440 million.
Adegbite said the ministry’s proposed revenue for 2014 was N600.3m
The commissioner explained that the budget of the ministry in 2014 was N22.3bn out of which N339m would be spent on recurrent expenditure and N22bn on capital expenditure.
