Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State has expressed readiness to work with his predecessor, Mr. Segun Oni, in view of the recent merger between the new Peoples Democratic Party and the All Progressives Congress.
The governor spoke in Erinmope Ekiti in Moba Local Government Area of Ekiti State during a meeting held in continuation of his tour of the local government areas in the state.
Fayemi had engaged Oni in prolonged legal battle to reclaim his mandate as the winner of the 2007 governorship election in Ekiti State.
The governor, while expressing satisfaction on the alliance, said he saw Oni as a progressive politician considering his antecedents as a founding member of the Advanced Congress of Democrats.
He said, “The role that he (Oni) played during the battle to wrestle power from the former Governor Ayodele Fayose is noteworthy.”
He said he was ready to work harmoniously with stakeholders in a bid to rescue the nation from the brink of collapse.
Fayemi said, “If you know the political antecedents of former Governor Segun Oni, you will see that he has always been a member of this party. We worked together at the launch of ACD which worked with Alliance for Democracy on the formation of Action Congress.
“I see no reason why his coming on board will not be welcome by a right thinking progressive. We are unique, Ekiti is one. We belong to one group. So, anyone who is a lover of progress, a lover of development and a lover of peace, is clearly welcome.”
