WE DIRECTED KWANDE TO DEFECT TO PDP, NOT APC - USENI...IT’S NOT TRUE, SAYS KWANDE

The National Chairman of the Democratic Peoples Party (DPP) Gen Jerry Useni (rtd) has said that the leadership of the party directed Rep Yahaya Kwande to defect to the PDP and not APC.
Kwande who represents Bassa/Jos North Federal Constituency of Plateau State in the House of Representatives was one of the two lawmakers who defected to the APC in the House on Tuesday, the other being Rep Emmanuel Jime from Benue State.
Useni in a letter addressed to Reps Speaker Aminu Waziri Tambuwal dissociated the party from Kwande’s defection to APC.
He said Kwande did not get any backing from the national leadership of the party to move to the APC, and so he was on his own on the matter, saying “Kwande was directed to decamp to PDP and not APC.”
Reacting, Kwande told Daily Trust that he was never directed by anybody to join the PDP, saying he was man enough to take decisions for himself.
He said he was shocked to hear about the letter as he never contemplated joining the PDP and would not do that based on the wishes of his constituents.
“I was shocked and perplexed with the contents of the letter. Yes, I had discussions with the party leadership on the matter, but when I saw that they were tilting towards one side, I had to consult my constituents and they were okay with my moving to APC,” he said.
He said he was “surprised that a party on ground could say it directed its member to join another. But as for me, once I take a decision, there’s no going back.”
