President Goodluck Jonathan is exploiting the spiritual option to overcome the storm facing him and the PDP over his non-verbal declaration for the 2015 presidential poll. A source said that, throughout last month, several prayer meetings which centred on the PDP crisis and the president’s safety were held in Aso Rock.
“We are not unaware of the devices of the devil, who will not be happy seeing Nigeria coming out of the logjam; we have to stand in the gap for the country and the president. It is the responsibility of the church to stand in the gap for the leadership of the country with a view to ushering in peace,” a participant in the meetings said.
In the “Prayer Guide,” the participants interceded for Nigeria, the PDP and President Jonathan.
One of the prayer points at the Saturday, December 28, 2013, prayer session was: “Pray for God’s intervention in the ruling party’s internal crises to enable them achieve God’s plan and purpose for Nigeria before, during and after 2015 – Psalm 33:10-11.”
They also asked “God to protect, guide, strengthen, and encourage President Jonathan and the rest of our leaders and their families at all levels – Joshua 1:8.”
On Wednesday, December 25, 2013, the congregation asked “God to cause our legislators to put national interest above tribal, religious and personal interest in the discharge of their legislative duties – Ecclesiastes 9:10, 1 Corinthians 4:2.”
The prayer session ended on December 31 with the prayer warriors asking “the Lord to halt every secret attempt on the life of Mr President, preserve him, his family and his administration to fulfil God’s purpose for Nigeria and frustrate those engaged in the drumbeat of anarchy and war -Zechariah 2:5, 8 2 Corinthians 10:4-5.”
