Police smash UN recruitment syndicate, arrest three
The police have smashed a United Nations recruitment syndicate known as Universal Response and Rescue Support Foundation and arrested three suspects.
The suspects are Michael Adedayo Abraham, 45, who described himself as the ‘Rescue-General’; Lemmy Odogwu, 35, FCT Commandant; and Innocent Prosper, 35 years.
The foundation, which claimed to have be an affiliate of the UN, was said to have swindled over 100 applicants to the tune of N7m.
A Toyota Sequoia SUV with number plate, BGT 151 AAA, 181 copies of unfilled recruitment forms with UN logo, a booklet containing lists of recruitment and phone numbers of intending members were recovered from the scammers.
The Force Public Relations Officer, Frank Mba, who paraded the suspects on Friday in Abuja, explained that the organisation had exploited the gullibility of many Nigerian youths to fleece them of their money.
He stated that the organisation had a training camp in Iba, Lagos, with branches in Ekiti, Cross River, Imo states and Abuja.
Mba added that the suspects would be charged to court on charges of impersonation, cheating and forgery
