Palestinian diplomat in Prague injured in blast

A Palestinian diplomat has been injured by an explosion at his home in the Czech capital Prague, apparently while opening his safe.

The diplomat, named by Czech media as Jamal al-Jamal, was seriously injured and taken to hospital, police told AFP news agency, without giving details.

It appears that nobody else was hurt in the blast, which occurred in the city’s Suchdol district, AP reports.

One Czech report suggests the diplomat suffered injuries to his limbs.

“I can only confirm there was a detonation in the residence of a Palestinian diplomat,” police spokeswoman Andrea Zoulova told AFP.

“The diplomat suffered a serious injury and was taken to hospital. We are investigating the causes.”

The Palestinian Liberation Organisation (PLO), which is recognised by the UN and Israel as representing the Palestinian people, has diplomats based in European and other capitals, and has a mission in Prague.
