Hoodlums attack Senator’s husband, life in danger
There was confusion on Friday in Jere town in Kagarko local government area of Kaduna State as dispute over ownership of land turned bloody.
Husband to former Minister of Finance and a serving Senator, Nenadi Usman, Dr. Usman Sa’ad, who is a first class Emir, was attacked in Gbagy Community when he attempted to broker peace between the Gbagy and the Fulani in the area.
A source told our correspondent that the Emir may have died in the process while another source claimed that the monarch was seriously injured in the attack and currently in an intensive care of an undisclosed hospital in Kaduna.
The attack was alleged to be an aftermath of a land dispute between the Sarki people, the Hausa- Fulani and the Gwari people in his domain.
An eyewitness, who craved for anonymity as he was not permitted to speak to the press, said the attackers were not satisfied with his handling of the land dispute, as a result, in anger, they attacked him.
“At the moment, nobody is sure whether the monarch (Sarki) is dead or alive. He was severely macheted,” said the source.
When contacted, Kaduna State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Olufemi Adenaike, who confirmed the incidence said he was yet to get details of the situation but said that sketchy information available to him indicates that the incident which led to the attack on the Sarki was as a result of dispute between the Sarki people and the Gwari people from the area over an unresolved dispute.
He added that his men were already deployed in large numbers to the troubled area to restore peace to the area.
He said the Sarki people were not dead as is being insinuated and further debunked that the attack was by unknown gunmen.
The police boss then urged the people of the area to remain calm and law abiding and go about their normal activities as the police will ensure the safety of lives and property in the community
