Governor Nyako, Marwa, Gundiri unite as Adamawa APC appoints executive

The committee will be responsible for the registration of members of the party slated for February
The tension that has been generated in the Adamawa State chapter of the , following the defection of Governor Murtala Nyako from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, was doused on Tuesday after the leaders of the party met and agreed on a 14-man Interim Management Committee to run the affairs of the party in the state.
There had been palpable tension over the perceived take-over of the party’s structure in the state by Mr. Nyako in line with the position taken by the national leadership of the APC that governors are the leaders of the party in the states.
Mr. Nyako and governors of Kano, Kwara, Sokoto and Rivers decamped last year to the APC from PDP.
Before the coming of Mr. Nyako into the APC, the governorship candidate of the defunct Congress for Progressives Change, CPC, Buba Marwa; and Markus Gundiri, the former governorship candidate of the defunct Action Congress Nigeria, ACN, were the arrow heads of the party and their positions was threatened by the arrival of the governor into the party.
However, PREMIUM TIMES gathered that Mr. Nyako called a meeting of the leaders of the party on Sunday and informed them that he did not join the party to take it over.
A source who was privy to the proceedings at the meeting said the governor made some concessions and asked that the interim executive should come from all the former parties that dissolved to merge into the APC.
Consequently, the governor only nominated the interim chairman, who is the current Secretary to the State Government, Kobis Aris; while the defunct ACN produced the secretary, and the CPC produced treasurer.
The interim committee was subsequently inaugurated on Monday
Speaking during the inauguration ceremony in Yola, Umar Duhu, the interim National Vice-Chairman of the APC, North-East, noted that the inauguration was in line with the party’s constitution.
“Today is another milestone in the history of APC in Adamawa with the inauguration of its Interim Management Committee,” Mr. Duhu said.
He said the committee will be responsible for the registration of members of the party slated for February. He said it would also be responsible for the establishment of the party’s offices in 226 wards and 21 Local Government Areas of the state.
The Chairman of the committee, Mr. Aris, said the team would do everything within its powers to register members and woo more people to the party.
Mr. Aris urged all stakeholders and members to come together and work towards giving the party victory in elections.
Other members of the committee include Fati Ballah, Secretary; Musa Kamale, Treasurer, Abdullahi Bakari, Organising Secretary, and Salihu Ahmed, Publicity Secretary.
It also has Danboyi Jiddo as Youth Leader;  Titi Maliki as Women Leader and Saidu Naira, Wafarinyi Theman  and Fatima Mohammed as ex- officio members.
The inauguration was attended by Messrs Nyako, Marwa, and Gundiri; as well as former presidential candidate of the defunct ACN, Nuhu Ribadu; and a former speaker of the House of Representatives, Bello Masari.
