Civil Servants Desert Secretariat In Abuja
The New Year holiday declared by the federal government appears to have been extended in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) as civil servants in the nation’s capital are yet to resume work.
A visit by Channels Television to the Federal Secretariat in the Three Arms Zone reveals that many workers are still in the holiday mood as offices in the secretariat remain under lock.
However, some civil servants attributed the near desertion of the federal secretariat to the New Year holiday which was observed on a Wednesday.
The Federal Government had declared December 25 and 26, 2013 as public holidays to commemorate the Christmas and Boxing Day Celebrations.
Similarly, January 1, 2014 was declared a public holiday to mark the New Year.
The Minister of Interior, Abba Moro, made the declaration on Friday in Abuja.
He advised all Christians and Nigerians in general to extend love, joy, peace and kindness which are the spiritual benefits of Christmas to their daily living.
He also asked that they reflect on the giant strides made by the present government in the development of the country.
