Activities low as Lagos workers resume

Activities within the Lagos State Secretariat, Alausa, were low on Thursday as workers returned to work after the New Year holiday.

A News Agency Nigeria correspondent, who went round the secretariat, reports that while offices at the ministries were open, they were without the large number of visitors, who normally came in for business.

At the Ministry of Education, some workers were seen in their offices treating files without the usual horde of visitors around as at 11.45am.

The situation was the same at the Ministry of Transport as the offices were not as busy as usual.

A member of staff at the Ministry of Finance, who simply gave his identity as Ayo, said workers had reported for work but noted that the workload was light.

“Everybody is at work but you know it is the first working day of the year; things cannot begin to happen immediately. Some of the visitors, who usually come to our offices for one thing or the other, are probably away on vacation.

“Government is all about people; so; activities would peak as soon as we get the usual demands,” he said.

Another worker at the Ministry of Information, who did not want his name published, said while some workers had reported at the ministry, others were still being expected.

“Some people travelled during the holiday. They are on their way back so they are not here. I believe by next week, everybody will be back at their duty posts and things will normalise,” he said.
