2,500 members of PDP, LP defect to APC in Cross River

No fewer than 2, 500 members of the Peoples Democratic Party and the Labour Party in Cross River State have defected to the All Progressives Congress.

Receiving the defectors late Tuesday in Calabar, the state interim chairman of the APC, Mr Alex Irek, said that the defectors included 1, 500 LP members from Akpabuyo Local Government Area and 1, 000 PDP members in Alankwo ward, Boki LGA.

Irek said, “I am sure everyone is seeing what is happening. There is a wind of change coming and it is coming strong. We urge our supporters to remain strong and defend the party. We also urge supporters to canvass and bring more members. APC will rule this country in 2015.”

One of the spokespersons for the defectors in Akpabuyo, Mr Bassey Okon, said they had written to the State Harmonization Committee of the APC conveying their decision to join the party as they were tired of the uncertain future that they believe awaits them in their now former party.

He expressed joy over their acceptance into the party and assured that they will work to ensure APC takes over Akpabuyo in the coming elections.
