Lagos State police command has arraigned one Jennifer Frank before the Badagry chief magistrates’ court over an allegation that she cut off the tongue of one Emmanuel Izokpu in a scuffle.
The charge sheet read in court, on Wednesday, stated that the accused resides at No. 2 Tajudeen Street, Afromedia Estate, Okokomaiko, adding that he faces a two-count charge of assault and threat to life.
Police prosecutor, Inspector Innocent Uko, told the court that the accused committed the offence on October 20, 2013 at 11.10 p.m. on Tajudeen Street, Afromedia Estate, Okokomaiko in Badagry magisterial district.
Uko alleged that the accused also threatened to kill Izokpu with “a big stone.”
He said that the victim was currently receiving treatment at a hospital in Lagos.
He said the offences contravened the provisions of section 411 and punishable under section 56 (A) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, Nigeria 2011.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Counsel to the accused, Mr. Ayo Tejuosho, pleaded with the court to grant his client bail since investigation was still on.
Tejuosho said that his client was still innocent until proved otherwise, promising that his client would not jump bail.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr. Abiodun Etti, admitted the accused to bail in the sum of N200, 000 with one surety in like sum.
Etti ordered that the surety must present evidence of tax payment.
He adjourned the case to November 26, 2013 for further hearing.*
