Dana Air loses N18bn Over Suspension Of Operations

Dana Air has alleged that it has lost over N18 billion due to the suspension of its operations in 2012 and 2013 by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) following its aircraft accident of June 3, 2012.

According to the airline’s spokesman, Tony Usdiamen, the company has been put under undue financial stress due to government’s action.

He said:“Financial loss to Dana Air due to government shutdown in 2012 and 2013 is conservatively estimated at $25million (about N18 billion). The company’s financial report for 2012 shows that the airline, which is Nigeria’s third largest carrier with a fleet of seven aircraft, lost N14 billon last year and has so far lost about N4 billion in revenue in 2013 due suspension of its operations.”

NCAA had on October 6, 2013, directed the management of Dana Air to immediately suspend its flight operations to allow for an operational audit of the airline. However, more than 30 days after NCAA had yet to embark on the audit of the airline or any other airline so far.
