Some universities have asked their lecturers to resume.
The striking university lecturers have vowed to continue their five-month strike.
At a brief press briefing in Abuja on Monday, the president of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, Nasir Fagge, told journalists that the strike would continue until the union’s demands were met by the Federal Government. He said the union would never be cowed.
“We shall bow only to what we, as academics, are convinced would serve the interest of Nigeria and its people – no matter their ethnic, religious or class origins.
“This is where we stand. We shall never be cowed,” Mr. Fagge said.
The Supervising Minister for Education, Nyesom Wike, last week Thursday gave the lecturers a seven-day ultimatum (till December 4) to resume work or lose their jobs. Following this threat, some universities have ordered their lecturers to resume work and called on students to resume classes.
ASUU has been on a nationwide strike since July 1.
