28-yr-old man gets 6-month jail for burglary

Magistrate Olufunke Hamzat, of an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court, Wednesday, sentenced a 28-year-old man, Lucky Matthew, to six-month imprisonment over burglary and stealing.
Matthew was sentenced without an option of fine after he pleaded guilty to the charges, brought against him by the police.
The defendant who resides in Agege area of Lagos faced a three-count charge of burglary, conspiracy and stealing, alongside Chigozie Udeh, 26, who pleaded not guilty.
The Police prosecutor, Inspector Roman Unuigbe said that the suspect broke into the house of Mr Obinna Williams through the roof and attempted to steal some clothes.
He said that the defendant stole a Nokia phone belonging to Williams valued N6, 000.
The prosecutor said that the offence was committed at 3 am on June 23 at Okeho Street, Dopemu, Agege, Lagos.
According to him, the offence contravenes Sections 285, 404, and 409, Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2011.
However Magistrate Hamzat granted Udeh bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum.
She further adjourned the case to July 15, 2013, for mention.
