Pregnant graduates, nursing mothers at NYSC orientation course

No fewer than 35 pregnant NYSC members were sworn in for the Batch B national service orientation course  on Thursday at Iseyin, Oyo State.
The News Agency of  Nigeria (NAN) reports that the pregnant corps members as well as some nursing mothers were among the 2,226 NYSC members  at the  parade ground.
One of the newly sworn-in corps members gave birth on Thursday  at the General Hospital in Iseyin.
The Oyo State NYSC Coordinator,  Olanipekun Alao,  confirmed the birth to NAN although he said he was yet to get the details of the corps member.
“I was told this morning that one of the new corps members was rushed to the General Hospital and has given birth.
“I don’t have the details and her identity yet but I can confirm it,” he said.
Alao commended the state government, Iseyin Local Government Council and the host community for their support, adding that  there was  no record of casualty.
Gov. Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State,  in his address,  said that the NYSC scheme for many years  had lived up to its vision
Ajimobi, who was represented by Mr Abimbola Adekanmbi, his Deputy Chief of Staff,  said the service was about to break new grounds
“The service is about breaking new grounds. You should all strive to surpass the worthy achievements of your predecessors in the scheme,” he said.
He said  government  would continue to provide the requisite  enabling environment to allow potent youth blossom and optimise their capacity to drive the  national transformation agenda.
Ajimobi urged the corps members to  participate in various developmental programmes of their host communities while exhibiting  high sense of loyalty, dedication to duty and commitment to national ideals
Mr Adedapo Lam-Adeshina, the Oyo State Commissioner for Youths and Sports and the Chairman of the state NYSC Governing Board, assured the corps members of a worthwhile service year.
Lam-Adeshina, who was represented by Mrs Kehinde Akintunde, the Permanent Secretary, Oyo State Ministry of Youths and Sports,  said the  state government had provided adequate security for corps members.
“We have provided an enabling environment for you all to showcase your potentials while you support the government in its developmental drive, ” he said.
The oath-taking was conducted  by Justice Badejoko Adeniji, the Chief Judge of Oyo State.
In Ede, Osun, Gov.  Rauf Aregbesola has called on corps members to always put the interest of the country  above personal interest.
Aregbesola made the call  at the swearing –in ceremony of the 2013 batch “ B” corps members deployed to Osun at the NYSC permanent orientation camp in Ede.
The governor, who was represented by the state Commissioner for Youths, Sports and Special Duties, Hon. Steven Kola-Balogun,  said  the oath of national service was to give them a  sense of commitment to national ideals.
He enjoined the newly sworn-in corps members to take part in all the induction programmes  in the camp.
Mrs Mojibola Eboagwu,  the NYSC  Coordinator in the state, said  the scheme was  administering the oath of service on 2,220 corps members made up  of 1,174 males and 1,046 females.
