The Kwara State Command of Nigeria Police in Ilorin on Thursday paraded three suspects for the killing of a former Vice Chairman of Kwara State chapter of the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria, Dr. Adewunmi Ariyo.
Ariyo was killed at his residence on Harmony Street, Ilorin on April, 18, 2013.
The suspects, according to the Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Olufemi Fabode, are Adewunmi Kayode, aka Shanky, 36, Abiodun Ojulari,32, and Akeem Afolabi, 31.
Fabode also said the police recovered exhibits from the suspects such as a double-barrelled gun, one live cartridge and a BlackBerry Bold 2 mobile phone.
He stated that one of the stolen BlackBerry phones belonged to the deceased and was being used by a lady, adding that the mobile device assisted the police in tracking down the suspects.
He said, "Three of the arrested suspects Kayode, Afolabi and Ojulari confessed to belonging to a seven-man armed robbery gang. They explained that three of them with two other members of the gang, Olatide Oladapo, aka Dampson, and one Seun to rob Ariyo, who was killed during the operation.
"Oladapo has been arrested and he is currently in police custody in Oyo State in connection with other armed robbery cases. He has also confessed to the crime when interrogated by SARS operatives from Ilorin. Seun is still at large."
The PPRO said the victim was killed during the robbery, adding that the suspects' motive for killing the deceased was robbery. He added that the double-barrelled pistol used in committing the crime was recovered.
Fabode said efforts were still being made to track down the receiver of the victim's stolen vehicle.
Two of the suspects, Kayode, who claimed to be a graduate of Business Administration from Kwara State Polytechnic, and Ojulari, who also claimed to be a graduate of Physics from Uthman Dan Fodio University, said their intention was not to assassinate the victim but to steal from him.
"It was Seun, who is now on the run, that shot him," Kayode said.
Meanwhile, the command also paraded three suspects for the attack on the former Chairman of the Offa Local Government Council, Mr. Saheed Popoola.
Fabode said the suspects, Lukman Ariwajoye, Musliyu Olarinonye and Kabiru Oluaye were arrested by some soldiers who brought them to the police station at Offa last Friday.
"The suspects and others at large attacked Popoola who was relaxing at a bar in Offa. It was the noise that drew the attention of the soldiers," Fabode said.
