THE Ebonyi State Police Command said, yesterday, that it arrested an ex-Nigeria Prison staff, Enugu State Command, Sunday Nwaogbaga, 30, over his alleged involvement in the snatching of an 18-seater Toyota bus from one Ifeanyi on June 1, 2013.
Briefing newsmen at the command headquarters in Abakaliki, the state Police Public Relations Officer, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, DSP, Sylvester Igbo noted that the suspect had confessed to the crime as the bus was recovered at Ochudo Park in Abakaliki on June 19.
The police spokesman who appreciated the contributions of the Chairman of Ebonyi Youth Assembly, Comrade Chinedu Ogah and Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Ikwo Local Government Area of the state, Elder John Nti, towards the recovery of the bus, further revealed that the suspect who joined the Nigeria Prison Service in Enugu in 2002, was dismissed in 2006.
“On interrogation, the suspect confessed that he snatched the bus in Lagos State from one Ifeanyi on 1 June, 2013. Investigation revealed that he was a staff of the Nigeria Prison Service, Enugu State Command, who joined the service in 2002 and was dismissed in 2006”
In a related development, Igbo stated that on 20 June, men of the 32 PMF attached to the Area Command Afikpo while on a stop and search duty along Abomege-Afikpo road arrested one Okechukwu Emmanuel, a native of Amanike Awka, Anambra State, with a locally made pistol.
“The arrest of the suspect led to the arrest of one Eluu Echem, the manufacturer of the said pistol and Egwu Ukoh the linkman; during his arrest these items were recovered from him; one locally made long gun with some cartridges including some expanded ones. He is from Amelu Ugwu-Egu in Afikpo North LGA and has made useful statement and will soon be charged to court.
“I appeal to the members of the public to join hands with the Ebonyi state police command in the fight against violent crimes by confiding in us, in crime related information that will assist us to nip in the bud any attempt to commit crime by hoodlums”
