PDP wins Ebonyi LG poll boycotted by opposition

Despite a boycott by all parties except PDP, the electoral commission said the poll was free and fair.
Ebonyi State Independent Electoral Commission has declared candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), winners of the local council poll held on Saturday.
The election was boycotted by opposition political parties in the state.
John Nkwuda, the Chairman of the commission, who declared the results on Sunday, said the PDP won the chairmanship and counsellorship seats in all the 13 local government areas of the state.
According to him, the All Progressive Congress, APC, had fielded a candidate for the chairmanship seat of Ezza South Local Government, while All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA, had a candidate for councillor in Nsokara ward of the same council.
Mr Nkwuda congratulated the winners and urged those who lost to wait for another opportunity.
“The winners would be given their certificates of return before their swearing-in, and the commission would continue to deliver free and fair elections in the state,” he added.
He described the elections as “free, fair, devoid of violence and other forms of irregularities”.
