Okorocha in car accident, hospitalized
Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State was involved in car accident on Friday at Orlu town.
Government House spokesman says the governor is stable and is being attended to by his personal physician.
Okorocha's personal physician, Sylvester Igwe, said: "The Governor had a minor laceration of his scalp, and is very stable, what he needs now is further medical examination."
The Governor's car, according to an account given by Ebere Uzoukwa, the Special Assistant on Media (SA, Media), had a head-on collision with a vehicle (Mercedes Benz car) in Orlu town, at about 3.00pm Friday, while he (governor) was inspecting some projects in the area.
Uzoukwa described to BusinessDay on phone how the accident happened:
"The governor and his entourage were touring some projects in Orlu main town today (Firday) and suddenly a Mercedes Benz car emerged from no where and rammed into the governor's car, hitting it head-on."
The SA Media confirmed that the governor "sustained minor injury on the forehead; and is being treated by his personal physician" at an undisclosed location.
According to the SA Media, Governor Okorocha was "stable, as his injury is not a serious one"; saying "there is no cause for alarm."
Governor Okorocha's road traffic accident comes six months after his Taraba State counterpart, Danbaba Suntai, on October 25, 2012, injured himself badly with an aircraft he himself was flying.
Till date, he is still hospitalized abroad.
