Man, 62, Beaten To Death During Forceful Eviction

A 62-year old man, Sunday Uche Michael, has allegedly been beaten to death at Aboru, Iyana-Ipaja, Lagos, southwest Nigeria.

At least 10 persons were said to have stormed the victim’s residence at 40, Church Street, Aboru at about 7p.m. on Monday, and attempted ejecting him from the house.

P.M.NEWS reliably gathered that the deceased and his 29-year old physically challenged son, Ifeanyi Michael, were severely beaten by their assailants and the old man died in the process.

The grandpa was declared dead on arrival at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, LUTH, Idi-Araba, where he was rushed to.

Trouble started when the deceased was allegedly asked by his landlord, Mr Akinrinola, to vacate his self-contained apartment after spending barely a year out of the one and half years he paid for when he packed into the house last year January.

The landlord’s relationship with the deceased became strained in the process of trying to eject him from the premises and they started living like cat and mouse afterwards, said a source.

The situation remained this way until Monday when the 10 men stormed the building with weapons and reportedly beat the old man to death.

However, luck ran out on Samuel Eromosele Enato, who was allegedly involved in the attack. He was arrested by the police and is currently in custody at Abado/Oke-Odo Police Station.

Enato was traced and arrested by the police through some identity cards found in the wallet which fell from his pocket while he was allegedly trying to escape after the dastardly act. The other accomplices are said to be on the run.

The landlord and his wife have also been arrested. However, P.M.NEWS could not speak with him in police custody.

Speaking with P.M.NEWS, the victim’s first child, Joy Michael, 30, said: “I was in my house at Agege when I got a call that my dad is dead. I rushed down to confirm if the information was actually true and when I got there, I met his lifeless body on the floor.

“I rushed him to a nearby hospital where we were referred to Ile-Epo General Hospital and later to LUTH where he was confirmed dead on arrival. They have achieved their threat of killing him. Maybe they would be happy now,” she said.#
