Lagos Govt vehicles to use compressed natural gas

Lagos State government says it is considering the use of Compressed Natural Gas for vehicles operating in the state.
Commissioner of Energy and Mineral Resources, Engineer Taofiq Aibade Tijani said the scheme will soon be introduced as a pilot scheme to the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) and the Lag bus vehicles.
Ajibade disclosed this recently when the British Deputy High Commissioner, Mr. Peter Carter paid a courtesy visit to his office.
He explained that the use of CNG will greatly reduce the demand for petrol and diesel which are not environmentally friendly and are already being priced out of the reach of the populace.
The Commissioner sought the assistance of the Deputy High Commissioner in attracting investors in the energy sector especially in renewable energy, waste to energy project, captive power project and solar energy deployment in the state.
According to the Commissioner, other areas of attracting investors include the development of the solid mineral and the oil and gas subsectors of the economy of the state.
Responding, the British Deputy High Commissioner, Mr. Peter Carter, promised to keep the Ministry updated on areas of mutual interest.
