Body of Funmilayo Olayinka, Ekiti Deputy Gov laid to rest





As the body of the late Deputy Governor of Ekiti State, Mrs Funmilayo Adunni Olayinka was Friday laid to rest in Ado Ekiti, her home town, the Archbishop, Metropolitan and Primate of Nigeria, Anglican Church, Most Revd. Nicholas Okoh, has expressed worry about the  extravagant lifestyle of most Nigerians, saying this has led to the pervaded evil that was plaguing the nation

Mrs Olayinka,52 died on April 6 this year after a long battle with cancer

In his  sermon during the burial service of the late Deputy Governor which took place at the Cathedral Church of Emmanuel,Anglican Communion, Ekiti Diocese ,the cleric noted that the problems of kidnapping, militancy, insecurity  and corruption continue to fester in the country owing to priority placed on money.

The man of God  called on the political class to ensure that lifestyles of Nigerians are changed for better,if the country as a nation must move forward.

Okoh, who was represented by the Archbishop Ecclesiastical, Province of Ondo , Bishop George Latunde Laosebikan wondered why politicians must continue to kill themselves in the name of politics,attributing this to superfluous and extravagant lifestyle.

In his short remark at the occasion,the  President,Dr Goodluck Jonathan preached peace and the need to love one another


Jonathan observed that  with love and unity, the country could overcome its security challenges and become stronger among the advanced countries of the world.

President Jonathan made the statement  at the Cathedral Church of Emmanuel , Anglican Communion, Okesa in Ado Ekiti during the burial of the late Deputy Governor of Ekiti State, Mrs Funmilayo Olayinka.

Represented by the Minister of Police Affairs, Navy Capt Caleb Olubolade, described the death of Mrs Olayinka as  unfortunate and premature, saying the cold hands of death snatched her away at a time her full potentials had not been fully tapped.

The late Deputy Governor was buried at a newly constructed heroes’ Park in Ado Ekiti, present were her husband, Mr Lanre Olayinka, her children, Olamide, Ololade and Yeside including members of her extended family  paid their last respect.

Fayemi in his short comment  said the government would soon unveil its plan on how to immortalize the departed Deputy Governor and measured to take to curb  cancer.

Present at the church service were:the governors of Osun , Oyo and Ogun States, Engr Rauf Aregbesola, Abiola Ajimobi and Chief Ibikunle Amosun and representatives of  Governors  Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State, Governor Ahmed Abdufatai of Niger State  and Aliyu Babangida of Niger State.

Deputy Governors at the event were: Rear Admiral John Jonah of Bayelsa State, Mrs Titi Laoye-Tomori of Osun State,  Alhaji Alli Olanusi of Ondo States, Mr Effiong of Cross Rivers State, Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire of Lagos State, Deputy Governor Nasarawa State, Otunba Moses Adeyemo  of Oyo State.

Former Governors at the event include: Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, former Governor of Lagos State,  Aremo Segun Osoba, former Governor of Ogun State, Chief Segun Oni, former Governor of Ekiti State, Commodore Atanda Yusuf, former Military Administrator of Ekiti State, former Governor of Ondo State, Evang Bamidele Olumilua.

Wives of  the State Governors  at the burial include: Wife of Lagos State Governor, Mrs Abimbola Fashola, Wife of Oyo State Governor, Mrs Florence Ajumobi, Wife of Osun State Governor, Alhaja Serifat Aregbesola,  wife of Ogun State Governor, Mrs Olufunso Amosun, wife of Ondo State Governor, Mrs Kemi Mimiko.

Other dignitaries  include: Senator Olorunnibe Mamora,  Senator Babafemi Ojudu, Mr Gbenga Oyebode, Mr Odion Ofeimun, former Deputy Governor, Ekiti State, Mr Bisi Omoyeni, Senator Gbenga Aluko, Hon Bimbo Daramola, members of the Ekiti State Executive Council, Chairmen of boards, among others.
