Three injured as fire guts factory in Lagos

At least three people sustained varying degrees of injuries on Wednesday after a nylon manufacturing-factory, known as K3 Industries, on Kudirat Abiola Way (Oregun), Lagos caught fire. It was learnt that the fire, which was caused by an inflammable substance, began around 7am. An employee of the company, who spoke to our correspondent in confidence, revealed that the fire broke out after a bulb dropped into a diesel tank. “It started very early in the morning. A small fire was seen in the store department. As we struggled to put it out, a bulb dropped into the diesel tank, causing a loud explosion. We immediately scampered to safety,” he said. The PUNCH learnt that in a bid to put out the fire, some of the workers sustained injuries and burns. Our correspondent learnt that because the affected factory was surrounded by some other chemical-producing companies, employees from other companies were able to assist in helping to put out the fire. Men of the state fire service said they got wind of the fire around 8am. It took about five water-bearing trucks to put out the fire about an hour later. Punch
