latest news from Central Africa Republic

The man who has declared himself the new president of the Central African Republic, Michel Djotodia, says he will review existing contracts with foreign mining companies. Mr Djotodia -- who seized power during heavy fighting last weekend -- says he will ask his ministers to renegotiate licences awarded to Chinese and South African firms. Mr Djotodia told a news conference in the capital, Bangui, that he wanted to put the economy of his resource-rich country back on track. Meanwhile, the only functioning hospital in Bangui said it was still receiving about thirty wounded people a day. The Red Cross says eighty bodies have been collected from the streets since the last weekend's coup. Bbc
