Police collaborators that killed Civil Defense officers wanted to aid vandals’ escape- NSCDC

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) stated this evening that Police Officers that gunned down and killed two of their officers in the early hours of today were collaborators with oil thieves. The Corps added that the Policemen deliberately ambushed their men with the purpose of setting the vandals free from the custody of NSCDC men who had arrested them in a successful operation. The Public Relations Officer of NSCDC Okey Emma who spoke to Daily Times in an exclusive telephone interview said Officers of the Corps, acting on a tip-off from reliable informants had moved swiftly and arrested some criminals vandalizing NNPC pipelines around Badagry area as early as 3am today. “One of the vandals when he saw that the game was up for them, quickly put a call to someone before our men finally got hold of them. As our men were taking the criminals away, an unmarked Camry car double-crossed them and opened fire, killing two Officers of our Corps in the process which led to the escape of the arrested vandals,” NSCDC spokesman said. He said the statement today by the Police that the Officers that killed NSCDC men thought they were vandals do not hold water because the Anti- Vandal Squad of the Corps that carried out the operation went with two officially marked Hilux Vans belonging to the Corp. “Our men went to the operation with two official vans that were branded. The Police Officer that ambushed them after the operation went with unmarked Toyota Camry car. So how can they mistake our officers for vandals in that situation? “Again, why did the Police Officers run away after opening fire on our Officers? If they thought our men were vandals, they would have stopped to declare that they had arrested vandals. But they ran away. Only that luck ran against them, leading to the identity card and other belonging of the assassins being recovered at the scene of the incident,” Emma said. On the lingering crisis between the Police and NSCDC, the Public Relations Officer said the Corps has no need to have acrimony with the Police since they are supposed to be sister organizations under the payroll of the Federal Government. He wondered why Police officers take pleasure in always molesting NSCDC officers, saying that such incidents occur regularly. Daily Times
