Crash: MIC undertaker had premonition of death

Akeem Akintunde, one of the four undertakers who alongside the Chief Executive Officer of MIC Funeral Services, Tunji Okusanya, and his son, Olatunji, died aboard the  ill-fated aircraft  carrying the remains of  a former governor of Ondo State, Dr. Olusegun Agagu,  may have had a premonition of his death.

When our correspondent visited his Facebook page on Sunday, his last post on the social network which dated October 3 – the same day the crash occurred –  saw him making a reference to the “last day of my life.”

Akintunde, who according to information on his Facebook page was a graduate of the Lagos State University, said in the last 33 years of his existence on earth, he had always found time to ruminate on the last day of his life.

“For the past 33 years, I have looked in the mirror every morning and asked myself: If today was the last day of my life, would I want to do what I am about to do today! And whenever the answer has been ‘No’ for too many days in a row, I know I need to change something. Akezo,” he wrote on his Facebook page.

Akintunde posted his last message on Facebook with a BlackBerry smartphone and as at the time of filing this report, 22 of his friends had shared the status update while some of them offered condolence messages.

One of Akintunde’s friends, Owolabi Tayour, wrote, “It’s been so painful, chaai! Rest in Peace, Akeem.”

Meanwhile, MIC Funerals has announced the names of the  other  undertakers who lost their lives in the crash.

In a statement posted on its Facebook page, the firm named Mr. Chijioke  Duru;   Mr. Kingsley Amaechi; and  Mr. Samson Hassan, as three other employees who died “while on official duties.”

The statement  posted by Mrs. Bolanle Okusanya–Feyita for and on behalf of the family and MIC Royal Ltd stated, “It is with great sadness and profound loss that MIC Royal Ltd. announces the passing away of our Chief Executive Mr. Olatunji Okusanya; his son, Mr. Olatunji Okusanya (Jnr) and four members of our team…

“They were involved in a fatal plane crash that  occurred at the domestic wing of the Murtala Mohammed Airport, Lagos, at 9.32am on October 3,  2013, while on official duties.

“A condolence register has been opened at our office on 15/17/19 Odunlami Street, Lagos Island and all are welcome to leave their messages. As events unfold we will make further announcements.”
