CLO tackles Bayelsa over suspension of member

The Civil Liberties Organisation has asked the Bayelsa State Government to immediately recall Mr. Nengi James, the chairman of its state chapter and pay him all his entitlements.

James, before his suspension by the state’s Head of Service, Mr. Frazer Okuoru, was an Administrative Officer in the civil service.

Okuoru had said on Wednesday that James was suspended for making disparaging comments against the state government.

He said the suspension stood until the matter was disposed of appropriately.

Okuoru had said the offence of James amounted to a serious case of misconduct and punishable under public service rule 03 04 02 (g,o,s, and w).

Trouble started for James, a rights activist in the state and Niger Delta, when he commented in his capacity as CLO chairman, on the proposed 60m Euros loan by the government, which his group condemned.

The CLO disagreed with the government’s action to take the loan, stressing that it would impoverish the poor people of the state and demanded that the government should rescind its decision.
