'Bode George can't lead South-West PDP'

AN ex-officio member of the Caretaker Committee of the   Peoples Democratic Party in the South-West, Mr. Olalekan Abubakar, on Monday warned the party leadership against making a former Chairman of the Nigerian Ports Authority, Chief Olabode George, the leader of the party in the zone.

Abubakar made this known in a statement on Monday.

George, he said, lacked the leadership capability to wrest power from the All Progressives Congress in the South-West in the 2015-general  elections.

He said, "There is no way the PDP can win the South- West with Chief Olabode George as the leader of the party in the zone. If they allow George to lead us, it will be tantamount to burying the party in the South-West, for obvious reasons."

Abubakar alleged that George had always wanted to lead the zone "even when he has not been able to win his polling booth since the beginning of this democratic dispensation in 1999. Conversely, there are other well-meaning leaders, who may not have held any public office hit have proved themselves so well that a lot of youths and respectable elders are solidly behind them."

Abubakar noted that unlike George, a few leaders opposed to the status quo had been spending their resources to keep the party together in the zone.

"Bode George cannot spend his money for Lagos, let alone the South West. He has always wanted to lead the South-West," he alleged.
