In its bid to rid Kano of social vices and other immoral activities, the state government has announced a total ban on street begging throughout the state.
Commander General of Kano Hisbah Board, Sheikh Aminu Ibraheem Daurawa, who made the announcement on behalf of Kano state Government, said the ban became necessary as over time beggars have been caught fornicating openly on the street.
Speaking to the press in his office, the Hisbah boss revealed that the ban was going to be total, adding, “We are going to rid all the streets and other flashpoints. Last week, we arrested more than 70 women, some we caught them fornicating, committing immoral acts openly, some were pregnant, while some have children without fathers”.
Very soon, according to Daurawa, Kano state will enact a law that would give legal backing to the complete ban on all forms of begging in the state. The ban, according to him, would see to the deportation of non-indigenes to their states of origin.
“It is only in this part of the country that one will give birth to children and release them to Islamic scholars who in turn make them beggars, roaming the street without training, proper shelter or even the religion itself,” he said.
