Commercial Bus Drivers Protest Minibus Ban in Abuja
Commercial bus drivers and operators of mini-vans in Abuja popularly known as 'Araba' have staged a peaceful protest over the ban of all unlicensed commercial transport operators within the nation's capital.
The aggrieved drivers matched to the National Assembly demanding that Federal lawmakers stop the implementation of the proposed transport policy by the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA).
The Secretary-General of the association of owners and drivers of mini-bus town service in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Charles Ikwuagbu described the policy as lawless, capable of rendering 62, 000 drivers, bus conductors and residents of the city jobless.
The Chairman of the Senate committee on the FCT, Smart Adeyemi however pacified the protesters, promising to hold talks with the minister of the FCT on the matter to prevent an impending transportation crisis in the nation's capital.
