Retired police officers under the aegis of Retired Police Officers of Nigeria, has threatened to embark on a nation wide protest over the non-settlement their entitlements .

This was the resolution of the group at its national executive council meeting held at the Jos Police Inspectorate mess, on Thursday.

Speaking with newsmen the REPON National Secretary, ASP Sylvanus Basadeimbo (rtd), expressed regret that after giving all their lives in the service of the country, they could be shabbily treated by the government that is supposed to protect them.

He said, “We have served Nigeria diligently for decades, we have retired and our pensions are not properly paid.

“We have severally written to all the relevant authorities, but yet we are not been considered.”

He said the way and manner at which retired officers are been treated by pension scheme is a great cause for worry.

The retired police officers said they have no other option than to take this course of action because all their pleas to government had fell on deaf ears.

“Our plight are ignored. Many of our members are dead, many are dying . Our children are out of schools, we are made to look like beggars. We wonder if it is a crime for one to serve his country for 35 years,” he said.
